By Subway: MTA Subways

Take the Canarsie-bound L train to Grand Street. This will leave you at the corner of Grand and Bushwick. Walk 1 1/2 blocks West to Stingray Divers, which will be on your left.

If you're coming from Staten Island, take the Ferry. Take the 1 or 9 train Uptown (North) to 14th street, where you can transfer to the L. (At Chambers Street, you can transfer to the 2 or the 3 express train for a speedier ride.)

From any part of Manhattan, you can take the A, C, E, 1, 2, 3, 9, F, 4, 5, 6, N or R to 14th Street and transfer to the L train. The L stops at 8th, 6th, Union Square, 3rd and 1st Avenues before entering Brooklyn. Click on this link for a complete list of stops the L train makes..

Or, you can take the G train to Metropolitan Ave. & Grand Street. The G train runs between Brooklyn and Queens. Transfer from the G to the Canarsie-bound L and follow the directions above. Click on this link for a list of stops the G train makes.

Information on New York City Public Transit:

If you're from out of town, or haven't ridden on public transit in a while, you should read this. Contrary to popular belief, New York City's public transit system is fast, efficient, easy to use, cheap, and safe, though we still can't vouch for the quality of the announcement system! It's much faster and easier to get to Stingray by subway than by car, especially if you're coming from Manhattan -- at least if you're not carrying a couple of sets of double 120's!

The fare for riding the bus or subway is $1.50.

You must have a MetroCard or token, which you can buy at most convenience stores or at the token booth and / or vending machine near the subway turnstile. (The vending machine accepts cash, credit cards, and ATM cards, while the token booth only accepts cash.)

You can also pay for the bus with exact change, but note that the bus does not accept dollar bills. If you have a MetroCard, transfers between the bus and subway are free. There's a one-day "fun pass" available for $4.50 which will give you unlimited rides for one day.

If you ride the bus first, paying with cash or a token, you can get a free transfer card for another bus or subway, but when exiting the subway, you cannot get a transfer for a bus. For this reason, we recommend the MetroCard, which will also allow you to transfer from subway to bus.

More information on the MetroCard is available at http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/metrocard/index.html.

The MTA has bus maps online at http://www.mta.nyc.ny/nyct/maps/index.html. Click on the Brooklyn link to see the bus map for Brooklyn. (Note, you need Adobe Acrobat reader to view the map. Directions and a link for installing the Adobe plug-in are available on the above page.)

A detailed map of the subway system is available online at http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm.

You can also pick up free bus and subway maps at any token booth. For more subway passenger information, including directions, call (718) 330-1234.

By Motor Vehicle:

From points West: Take the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, also known as Route 278) to Exit 33 (McGuiness Blvd. / Humboldt Street). Make a right at the light onto Humboldt Street. Go several traffic lights to Grand Street (you will see a medical office with a big blue sign on the far right corner). Make a right on Grand; Stingray is in the middle of the block on the left.

If you're coming from Staten Island, you can take the Verazzano-Narrows bridge to the Eastbound BQE, then follow the directions above.

From points East: Take the LIE (Long Island Expressway, Route 495) West to Exit 17, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (also known as the BQE and route 278).. Take the BQE to Exit 32B (Metropolitan Avenue). (Note that the BQE forks just before this exit -- to the left, the larger branch, is a cutoff for the Williamsburg bridge. You should stay on the right fork.) At the bottom of the ramp, make a left at the light. Go several blocks to Grand Street. You will see a restaurant called The New Apolo on the far left corner. Make a Left on Grand. Go several blocks. You will pass a donut shop on the left. Stingray is on the next block, on your right, in the middle of the block.

From Manhattan: Take the Williamsburg Bridge (head east on Delancey Street to get to it). Stay left, and you will end up on the Westbound BQE. Note that as soon as you merge with the rest of the BQE, you will have to get over to the rightmost lane immediately. Then follow the above directions for "from points West." Although you can also take the Midtown Tunnel to the Eastbound LIE and then follow the directions "from points West," we find that the Williamsburg Bridge is quicker. (In addition, you save at least $3.50 in tolls, which you can then use to buy something handy like mask defogger, a bolt snap, some spare o-rings, or add it to the tip next time you're on a dive boat.<g>)

Parking is 25 cents for a half hour, and there's a good chance that you'll get a ticket if you let the meter expire, so bring a couple of quarters with you! We have found that it is usually okay to double-park for a few minutes in front of the store if you can't find a spot, but keep an eye on your car!

Leaving the store

To the Williamsburg Bridge: Make a u-turn (or go around the block) so that you're heading West on Grand Street with Stingray on your left.  Keep going straight, under the highway, about 1 mile and you will see an entrance to the bridge on your left.

To the Eastbound BQE: Go West on Grand Street (so that Stingray's on your left).  Make a right on Rodney (right before going under the highway) and go straight ahead. The entrance will be on your left in a few blocks.

To the Westbound BQE: Go West on Grand Street (so that Stingray's on your left). Make a right on Rodney (instead of going under the highway) and a left onto Metropolitan. Another left after you cross under the highway. Go straight a couple of blocks and you'll see a sign for the highway. Make sure not to follow the signs for the Williamsburg bridge.

To the LIE: Go East on Grand Street (with the store on your right) to Vandervoort. There's a Gaseteria on the left side. Make a right. Go a few blocks; at the second light, you'll see the highway overpass in front of you. Make a right. The entrance to the eastbound LIE will be on your left.

By Air:

Sorry, folks, Stingray does not have a private jet to pick you up! We also don't have a runway big enough for your private jet or a helicopter landing pad. But we're conveniently located less than a half hour from La Guardia (LGA), and about an hour (depending, of course, on NYC's infamous traffic) from JFK and Newark (EWR). (These are all major international airports, and you can get a non-stop flight to any one of them from just about anywhere.) You can also fly into a smaller airport, such as McArthur (ISP), which is in Islip, Long Island, about 65 miles East, and White Plains, about 50 miles North. (Sometimes you can get excellent fares to these airports, but public transit from these airports is virtually non-existent and a taxi -- which you would need to arrange for in advance -- is quite expensive, so be sure it's worth it before you book your flight)

Give us a call and let us know where you're staying and we'll give you directions from there. And here's a tip -- if you're taking a taxi from the airport, use the official taxi stand. The taxi stand does NOT charge you money to get a cab. Taxis (depending on the airport) generally cost $30 - $50 (not including tolls and tip). Buses from the airport to Manhattan generally cost around $15.

General information on New York area airports (including smaller airports), transportation to and from the airports, and other regional information can be found at http://www.newyorkairports.com/.
